About the Institute

Five-year Master’s degree studies in psychology offered by the Ignatianum University are to allow students to gain broad and detailed knowledge in the area of description and explanation of mental processes and behavior. In the course of learning, the psychology student acquires knowledge of current psychological theories, psychometric, diagnostic and statistical methods, including the historical relationship of these issues with philosophy and systematic relationships with other modern disciplines. If they attain these objectives, the graduates of psychological studies should acquire appropriate qualifications which will prepare them for scientific research and teaching, as well as give them the basis for the provision of psychological services in accordance with the principles of exercising „a profession of public trust.”

Psychological studies at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Ignatianum University are designed to help to shape in a special way the ethical sensitivity of students in connection with the ethics of the profession of a psychologist. Development of students’ awareness of ethical issues is regarded as one of the priorities of the prepared program of study. Ignatianum educates its students not only in terms of substantive content, but also tries to develop their personality, pro-social attitudes, sensitivity, openness and respect for the dignity of another person, regardless of social status, religion and political views. The same applies to psychology students.

Implementation of training that includes development of expertise, ethical sensitivity and attitudes of openness, is facilitated by the prepared program of study and research and teaching staff who realize it. The program of study, in addition to the basic and specialized content, also includes such specializations as „Development support” and „Clinical psychology”, in which students are given the opportunity to develop and clarify the previously acquired knowledge and skills according to their individual interests. This program is the result of applying the guidelines contained in the existing normative acts and close cooperation with specialists in the field of psychology and other social sciences.
